Toronto! Thurs March 7th Feat Inali Barger. Workshop & Show

Picture
We are a two round slam and an anything goes open mic. Bring all your talents. Don't forget the real prize of the night is the coveted Queirdo! for most creative. The winner will move on to finals at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in April then the grand prize is a trip to Capturing Fire, The Queer Summit & Slam in Washington DC in later June.

Our feature, is just a champion human being. Meet him first at the Workshop, then come to the show

Inali Barger is a spoken word artist, educator, community advocate, activist, and has a habit of turning false dichotomies into biodegradable confetti. He has coached individuals and teams of poets to help them breathe into their own truths, locate their own experiences, and edit (self/others/the world, through words). Inali addresses intersectionality through the context of addiction, poverty, homelessness, mental illness, physical illness, queerness, research for advocacy on behalf of himself and others, and his nearly 11 years of dedication to the London Poetry Slam and Canadian spoken word community. He has competed nationally five times, placing 2nd nationally on the London Poetry Slam team in 2016, and was Underground Indies champ in 2017. He has performed, offered workshops, and spoken on panels at international and national conferences, universities, high schools, public schools, libraries, drop-in centres, living rooms and in conversations with strangers.

Workshop
Poetry as Knowledge Translation:
This workshop will focus on writing poetry with the goals of clarity and translating emotions and events across many contexts and experiences. We will briefly discuss intersectionality in writing as it relates to accessible language and individual experience, participate in a few writing exercises, and spend some time at the end to edit if time allows. Please bring writing materials (if you have extra, consider bringing some for your neighbour, as they might not have any). All ages and levels of experience are welcome.

Peterborough/Nogojawinong - Show! Sat March 9th at 7:30pm, The Sapphire room,

Picture

We're so excited to be teaming up with Peterborough Poetry Slam to bring our show back to the Sapphire Room once again and in honour of Black History Month we are presenting our 2 round multi city touring show featuring the award winning poet Sofia Fly.

Sofia Fly award winning rapper/producer/dj/poet from Toronto and an active member of it's transgender community. She won the Canadian National Festival of Spoken Word along with her Toronto Poetry Slam Team. She has performed her music at Pride and the final 420 march in Toronto. You can find her work on Soundcloud at www.soundcloud.com/xofiafly. Her stage show marries her many talents for a unique experience of sound, performance and politics.

We're in our 5th season of being an incredible multi city touring show that strives to create platforms for 2SLGBTQPIA+ poets. If you win, you'll be invited to join us for the final competition at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in April. The season 5 champ will be invited to join us for a trip to Capturing Fire the International Queer Summit & Slam in Washington DC.
